Only just came across this but it is a great article and really highlights something that I believe is becoming the plague of British conferences. I've been to quite a few in the social media space recently and was struck how it all felt a little like the early 2000s all over again. An overabundance of clever graphics and embedded video to show the world how good you are at using powerpoint. Luckily the content that went with these presentations was pretty good so I can let some of it slide but I do think Powerpoint is usually the refuge of the unengaging.
The Truevents have shown the Social recruiting world that Powerpoint is pretty redundant, with the exception of a few live things on big screens there was no place for refering to the big screen behind you as a way of explaining your point.
I worked with some very clever people a while ago and was privileged enough to be involved in a series of discussions about the future of presenting social media. The conversations were both for conferences and for salespeople pitching clients.
Once we talked out what we really wanted to know from powerpoint and what it really had to say we realised it was pretty much a waste of time.
If you don't like or know your subject enough to talk about it on your own maybe go back and rethink the whole idea...
When was the last time you saw Gary Vaynerchuk use powerpoint?
